Whirling Dinophysis

Dinophysis is a dinoflagellate that sometimes likes to twirl around in the water sample.

I think they look like a little amphora.

Dinophysis spp. produce toxins that can affect shellfish and the humans that eat them. Their numbers in Maine are monitored by the Department of Marine Resources and marine labs.
